NGO團體呼籲政府能儘速解除海地對台灣的債務 請連署海地名列世界銀行及國際貨幣基金「重債窮國」名單，早已是國際解除債務運動及人道援助團體的關注焦點，因此近年來分別獲世界銀行、美洲開發銀行、加拿大及巴黎俱樂部減債。此次震災後，前殖民母國法國更是高調向包括台灣等主要債權國家大力呼籲，要求迅速解除海地所有債務。
在去年7月，巴黎俱樂部(成員包括美、英、德、法、日本、俄羅斯等國)已經同意取消海地大部分債務。然而，海地的外債仍未全部解除，目前海地的8億9千1百萬美金債務中，除了有一半歸美洲開發銀行(Inter American Development Bank)與IMF，另一半歸屬台灣與委內瑞拉所有。因此，法國經濟部長拉加德（Christine Lagarde）上週籲請台灣及委內瑞拉協助免除海地的債務。
